Klockars' Blacksmithing, Rincon Hill
Stubbornly hanging on amid the skyscrapers and new 20-story apartment buildings near downtown is Edwin Klockars' Blacksmithing. Built in 1906 the working shop still forges tools for ship companies, industrial-supply companies, and others like PG&E. "I do nothing ornamental", says current owner Tony Rosellini who married Klockars' daughter and has been working here for nearly five decades. Edwin Klockars, a native of Munsmo, Finland and his father Wilbert built precision tools here that helped construct both the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges. The small blacksmithing shop continues to carry on the tradition of South of Market foundries that dates back to the 1860s. Their one motto: Anything you need, we make.

1 Comments:
I worked at 501 Folsom Street, for Nikon Inc, from 1976-1982.
Had the pleasure of strolling by, and into, Klockars shop during my lunch breaks!
Thanks for rekindling this fond memory!
