Church of Satan, Richmond District
For over 30 years this location was home to Anton LaVey's notorious Church of Satan. LaVey, formerly a burlesque organist and circus trainer, founded the church in 1966 and kept it in the news by a series of publicity stunts including a Satanic wedding, Satanic funeral, and a Satanic baptism (his 3 year-old daughter). His Satanic Bible, published in 1976, brought nationwide attention and attracted many curious people to the church including celebrities such as Sammy Davis, Jr., Tina Louise, Jayne Mansfield, and later Marilyn Manson. LaVey died on Halloween in 1997 and the church, which moved from this location, is still run by LaVey's long-time companion, High Priestess Blanche Barton. LaVey's ashes were divided amongst his heirs on the assumption that they possess occult potency.

Is Tina Louise a Satanist? She played a Satanist in the 1976 movie Look Whats Happened to Rosemarys Baby. Some sources say she is and some sources say she isnt.
